Sony notebooks are known for their reliability and their high manufacturing standards and the Sony VAIO GRS7001 is no exception. The only bad things we can say about it is there is no scroll button on the touchpad, and it does weigh in at 7.5lbs which is heavy compared to some other laptops on the market today. However looking at the positive the Sony VAIO GRS7001 is only 1.8 inches thick and can easily fit under your arm or into a briefcase for travel. This model is configured with a 1.8GHz-M Pentium 4 processor with SpeedStep technology, a 512KB L2 cache, a 30GB hard drive and 256MB DDR memory.

Not only does the Sony VAIO GRS7001 provide 400MHz front bus speed, the machine also offers two Type I/II or one Type III CardBus slots, one Magic Gate Memory Stick media slot, and a DVD and CDRW combo drive, allowing you to load software, play movies and backup your files and data. This useful combo drive is fitted in the multi bay and can be swapped out if needed for a useful extra battery. For your online surfing needs this Vaio contains a V.90 modem and a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet controller. The i.LINK interface supports digital video, audio and data transfer capabilities at fast speeds (between equipped Sony products). The ATI Rage Mobility Radeon 7500C graphics offer 32MB DDR SDRAM and the 14.1 inch TFT display commonly supports resolutions up to 1024 x 768. Stereo speakers are included to complete a pleasant multimedia package.

We found the Sony VAIO GRS7001 available at many places on the web. Indeed at the time of this review TigerDirect were offering a $200 rebate on this vaio, which brings the price of this notebook down to well under a $1000. All in all a nice value package, and a tasty Sony Vaio for a small business or home use, but with the 7.5lbs weight not ideal for the constant traveller or mobile professional.
